Sewage treatment plant project

Wujal Wujal is an Aboriginal community located in Far North Queensland, approximately 350 kilometres north of Cairns and situated at the southern edge of the Bloomfield River. Its home to between 800 – 1000 indigenous community members.

Factor UTB was initially engaged to deliver the design and construction of various water and sewage infrastructure projects for Wujal Wujal Aboriginal Shire Council. The engagement followed the Council Works Manager’s prior experience with Factor UTB on the delivery of a sewage treatment plant project at Long Island in the Whitsunday group of islands. Impressed with Factor UTB’s capability and project performance, the Works Manager recommended and secured Factor UTB’s involvement at Wujal Wujal.

Since that time, Factor UTB has successfully completed a range of infrastructure projects at Wujal Wujal, across varying scale and complexity, supporting the remote community with reliable water and wastewater management solutions.

A project conceived, designed, and delivered by Factor UTB at Wujal Wujal achieved national recognition when it received both the Category Winner Award and the Overall Project of the Year at the 2018 National Awards for Local Government. The initiative, titled the Emergency Management Network and Community Forum, was recognised for its innovation and community impact. The awards were presented at a formal ceremony and black-tie dinner held at Parliament House in Canberra.
